Water outlets Busia officially opened

Last week the Minister of Water of Busia County officially opened the eleven brand new water outlets of Amagoro and Malaba! Together with a number of local ICS employees he made a guided tour along the different water outlets, water towers and bore holes.

33 taps sustainably deliver clean drinking water

Using solar power water is been pumped up from a bore hole to a water tower. From the tower it's been distributed via a system of pipelines to eleven water outlets in total. Each outlet consists of three taps and is equipped with a prepaid payment system by Susteq. Locals can pay directly for the exact amount of water they need with smartcards they can credit in participating neighbourhood shops. From now on Water Forever International will take care of daily maintenance, quality controls and administration of income.

Expansion of sources

The two sources do no contain inexhaustable amounts of water. In order to increase the amount of water that can be pumped up, ICS received an amazing donation from six Dutch Rotary Clubs and Wilde Ganzen. During the Dutch national event Wandelen voor Water they collected, with the help of hundreds of school children, over 43.000 euro. This amount will be used to attach more sources to the system to make sure even more people can fill up their jerrycans with clean drinking water in the near future.
