Seeing is believing

Agrics Tanzania, one of ICS' social businesses, has started this week with the set up of a new demonstration plot. Agrics provides smallholder farmers in Kenya and Tanzania with agricultural inputs, like certified seeds and fertilizer, on credit. However, being a poor smallholder farmer, you want to be sure that investing the little money you have in those inputs pays off.

Therefore ICS has set up several demonstration plots. One half of the plot is being sowed with different maize variaties, the other half is being sowed with the same seeds plus fertilizer. This way we can show the farmers the differences in output. 'Seeing is believing", is what many farmers think. And they are right about that.

Farmers who have ordered agricultural products from Agrics are also offered training programs. Farmers learn when and how it is best to sow and harvest and they learn how best to use the Agrics products they’ve ordered. All of this aims to improve their crop. A bigger harvest does not only mean more food, but also a better income and a better future.
