Educational visit to Skillful Parenting project

At the beginning of this week Karisia Gichuke of the Bernard van Leer Foundation visited our Skillful Parenting project in Tanzania. Curious to the onconventional approach of ICS she travelled to Lingeka, a remote area where foreigners and tourists hardly ever come. Her most important question: what motivates individuals to join a Skillful Parenting course.

In the first place ICS focusses on parents that are already involved with one of the Agrics farmer groups. This way the connection is already there, which makes it easier to offer other courses as well. We believe that embedding the social activities into the economic activities added value arises that influences both wealth as well as well-being. Karisia Gichuke wrote a blog post on her visit and experiences.

A safe and stable home environment is of great importance in raising children and allowing them to grow into positive adults. Unfortunately this is not always the case for many rural children in Kenya and Tanzania. The absence of information means that parents in these rural areas are often not aware of how upbringing affects their child. By making them aware of the impact of a positive upbringing, it has a positive influence on the whole quality of family life.
